Jerry Garcia Band – Stir it Up 7/23/77

Great rendition of a Bob Marley classic. Donna gets a lot of hate and I think a lot of it is appropriate as she wasn’t the best fit with the band but some songs simply would not be the same without her, this track included and most importantly “Dancing in the Street” which she crushes.

Included below is a version of “He’s Gone” which the Dead played in 1981 to commemorate Bob Marley a day after his death. Originally written about the disappearance of Mickey Hart’s father, Lenny Hart, the then band manager who took off with a large sum of the band’s money, it has since has served as a tender ballad honouring those close to the band who have passed. Brent’s background vocals, as per usual, are strictly on point.
